The kitchen desk has now been claimed to organize our family’s recipes collected for years. Hand writing them on recipe cards 4×6 size. Trying to write at least one recipe a day, this project may still take several months. Noting where and when the recipe was found. or who passed it along to us. when it was first served and with whom. A recipe box contains a family’s legacy of life and love at the table. A diary of friends sharing meals. Recently gifted the book, An Everlasting Meal, by Tamar Adler, I am renewed in the spirit of cooking and serving meals at the table. A quote from the chapter on How to Boil Water:
“instead of trying to figure out what to do about dinner, you put a big pot of water on the stove, light the burner under it, and then, as soon as it’s on its way to getting hot, start looking for things to put in it. Once you do, you will have dropped yourself, in a single gesture, directly into the middle of cooking a meal, jostled by your faith and will a few steps closer to dinner…”
